Appleby Cricket Club
Appleby and Eden Cricket Club was disastrously flooded when the adjacent River Eden burst its banks during Storm Desmond in December 2015. The old timber pavilion was knocked off its footings by the force of the flood and was immediately condemned. Club Design were recommended to the cricket club by the England and Wales Cricket Board and started to work up designs for a replacement pavilion. Working closely with the Environment Agency, the clubhouse was designed to be lifted above any future expected flood levels, with calculations taking into account climate change. Considerable funding was put into the project by the England and Wales Cricket Board and Sport England.
The new pavilion will cater beautifully for the reborn cricket club and encapsulates the beauty of the setting next the River Eden in the shadow of the imposing St Lawrence’s Church.
